EMISPHER is a Euro-Mediterranean project for
distance medical training within the telemedicine framework.

17 partners are involved in this programme :
German, French, Greek, Italian, Turkish, Egyptian, Algerian, Tunisian, Moroccan and Cypriot partners are involved in the project. The CICE is a coordinator of the teaching programme alongside Aïn Shams University in Cairo, the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Casablanca, the Faculty of Medicine in Tunis, ISTEM University in Istanbul, the Minister for Health in Algiers, and IsMeTT in Palermo.
The specialities covered are gynaecology-obstetrics, reproductive medicine, surgery and endoscopy in particular, interventional radiology, liver disorders and transplants, infectious diseases, the CICE is particularly involved with endoscopic surgery, gynaecology-obstetrics, and reproductive medicine.

A unique technological platform :
the platform offered combines the use of Internet material and satellite transmission of images together with intense interactivity with the experts.
10 reference centres, including the CICE, are to be equipped with two-way satellite dishes.

Distance training by programmed satellite courses, backed up by Internet material :
Real-time and deferred theoretical and practical courses, with synchronous or asynchronous interactivity will be set up.
For example, it will be possible to have images transmitted directly from distant operating theatres, with the possibility of putting questions to the surgeon who is operating (synchronous interactivity) thanks to the installation of two-way satellite dishes in the various centres involved. On a more simple basis, it will also be possible to transmit lectures and conferences.
Similarly, it will be technically possible to receive these images live or by deferred transmission using a satellite receiver dish, in which case the interactivity will be essentially asynchronous - internet -.
Recorded videos will also be available for downloading, and this interactivity will thus be asynchronous.
